Wheelchair Friendly Design

This client being wheelchair bound, requested  a designer kitchen that would allow her
to continue to be independant and able to access all the Aplliances and unit storage available.

We reduced the depth of the sink Base unit at the top of the unit doors,
leaving the false drawer fronts at normal depth to enclose the sink bowl beneath the worktop

We also removed the centre post of the cabinet allowing full open access to the storage below

By removing the centre post this also allowed the client to open the doors
and place her feet on the bottom shelf and get close up to use the sink.

The Kitchen design lent itself to a Drawer pack below the hob but this would not have
been practicle in allowing the client to get close enough to the hob,

So we came up with a compromise !!

We kept the look of pan drawers but strapped them together and hinged them as door.
We then fitted some reduced depth internal pan drawers with an easy grip top bar handle.

This again left space at the front of the unit to place her feet and also allowed her
to easily pull out the internal pan drawers individually when required.

You will probably notice on this photo that where possible we used 900h wall units
that finished lower than standard height ones but this allowed the client to reach the
bottom shelves easier from her chair.

We also fitted a glass splash back behind the hob area, again for ease of cleaning
and colour matched this to the bottom doors of the kitchen

Pull out storage fitted both side of the hob to allow the client easy acess to items stored inside.

The kitchen units used in the design are from the Sheraton Elegant Painted range with
the base units being in green and the wall units in Ivory.

Both corner units were fitted with fully revolving carousels that take the doors inside the
unit out of the way and allows everthing to be brought out to within the clients reach.

At the other end of the kitchen we created some tall storage incorporating an accessible
height microwave again with pan drawers below for easy access

To the left of the microwave is storage for the ironing board etc,
while to the right is an integrated Tall fridge freezer

Next to the Fridge housing is a tall larder unit incorporating a variety of pull out baskets,
again allowing everything to come out for the client to easily access.

The final tall housing unit incorporates the wall mounted bolier and free standing tumble
dryer below, with a 300mm  pullout storage unit between them

Finally to finish the job off we made a new top for the clients existing work trolley
that she is able to move around the room on castors.

The worktop used was Axiom Breccia Pacifica
